Theyyam is a ritualistic dance art form that is specific to the temples in North Kerala. This is a dramatic and symbolic reliving of ancient earth-based worship and ancestor worship where spirits and gods walked side by side with ordinary mortals in day to day life. There are specific castes, or communities, that devote their lives to the study and practice of Theyyam, which is also their livelihood.
